Sound Driver

Recently my wife's ComPaq Pesario crashed and when I re-loaded Windows XP, the sound driver would not work. The cause for it not working is displayed as code 10. The driver does work in Safe Mode. I have uninstalled the driver a number of times and it reinstalls with the yellow exclamation mark. I have removed the HP Photo software and the Symantic software. I have reinstalled the driver from the driver disk.

Poor ACPI implementation of the BIOS maybe? Is there anything sharing the
same IRQ as the sound card that is disabled in safe mode?
