Sound disappears

Hi,
Whenever I boot up my machine, the sound seems fine. Then when I go on the
web, and try to use a link that has sound, all sound operation disappears
until I reboot. Does anyone have an answer to that one?
I have XP home edition, I installed it about 10 months ago.
I have also tried the troubleshooting link, but get nowhere.

Sounds like a possible driver issue... have you tried updating the drivers?
has this been going on sense you purchased your computer?
 
I have exactly the same issue with my new HP Media Center XP PC. Sound OK at
bootup. After a while, stops working. Spoken to HP. Got all new drivers (for
the Realtek HD Audio-Out) . Checked BIOS settings. These are not the problem.
Something is wierd, there seem to be many posts about similar issues. Is
anyone from Microsoft listening?
