Hi, I've got an ASRock P4i45D Motherboard, using C media and Windows XP home

I have never had any sound problems before, then without any warning ALL sound has completely disappeared

My speakers are fine (feedback from the conecting point still comes through

I have installed a new version of C media from the ASRock website after un and re installing my standard version

When I look in device manager on my speakers there is no driver signed to them. When i try and look for a better one it sais that there is no better one than already in use. When I try and roll back that doesn't work.

What is wrong??? What do I do??? How do I asign a driver to make the speakers work??

I would really aprieciate some help. Remote assistance would help a lot or please email me if u know what I have to do

Thanks
Jay

Many applications seem to be turning the Windows sound off in the services configuration for some reason. This may be or may not be your problem but is one thing to look at. go>start\control panel\administrative tools\services and scoll down towards the bottom until you find "Windows Audio". Now look to the right of this and it should be "started" and set to "automatic". If this isn't the case then double click on Windows Audio to open the configuration window and then on the general tab under the "startup type:" line make sure automatic is selected. If not then click the drop down list arrow to the right of the line and select automatic and click apply. Now in the "Service status:" section if the service isn't running click the start button. Click your way out and that may have it. You can also go>start\run and type in dxdiag and then click the sound tab to help you track down your problem. Post back if you need more help. {:~)

I've just performed this test and all tests were successful. So WHY wont any
of my windows sounds play??
I've uninstalled drivers, perfrmed reg edits, looked for updated drivers,
checked default devices, tried to create my own customised sounds and still
no Windows sounds
I have a external Creative Audigy NX2

I found the post and checked this. My Windows audio device is running and
started at 'automatic'
However in 'properties' the status says started but all the 'start' 'stop'
'pause' and 'resume' buttons are greyed out

Does this mean anything?
