i keep getting an error message saying sound device not found when i try to
listen to music,
i have looked through previous posts on this and i have tried the kellys
website thing and that has not helped me...
my sound card is listed in the device manager and it does not seem to have a
problem
i also can hear startup and shutdown sounds, also error sounds and sometimes
msn chimes, but no other sounds
pleas help i dont know what to do..it was working a week ago

"music files' aren't necessarily the same file format as the wav files of the
windows sounds. MP3, AVI, there are all sorts of music formats. Find out what
filetype is failing, and what app is trying to play them.

well, when i click on the volume control in the bottom right corner the error
message i am getting is
"there are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices go
to control panel, printers and other hardware and click add hardware"
this doesnt help me as i am not that great with computers and i dont know
really what i would b trying to add

If you don't know what it is, no one else could possibly tell you in a
newsgroup post. You should seek local help that can take a look at it.

This is the error message...

---------------------------
Volume Control
---------------------------
There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to
Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add
Hardware.

This program will now close.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Make sure that the Windows Audio service is set to Automatic and started.

Open Services...
Start | Run | Type: services.msc | Click OK |
Scroll down to and double click Windows Audio |
Set the startup type to Automatic | Click Apply |
Click the Start button | When the service starts, click OK |
Close Services

When the Windows Audio service is not running you get the above error if you
try to open the Volume Control (sndvol32.exe).

Keep your volume at a reasonable level. ;-) Don't blow the windows out of
the house.
