Hello,
I have a gateway system (P3, 500Mhz). When I play a CD, MP3 or live
internet radio the sound file is like play a record with a scrath.
Everything was working fine tell i added a 200gb hard drive. I ghosted the
old 18gb and it is now out of the system. the new hard drive can with an
ultra 133 interface card which i installed too. The sound card is built on
to the mother board. I can only get a windows 2000 driver for it from
gateway's web site. I'm running Windows XP pro. Any suggestion please or
would a new sound card help. If a new sound card can you recommend one.
Just someing to play MP3's, CD's and basic games.
Thanks you all.

That sucks! I had a HP Pavilion w/ a built-in sound card.
I got the driver from Windows Update and it was "scratchy"
like you mention. I ended up turning off the onboard sound
in my BIOS and installing a Sound Blaster PCI. The 128
works great too. You don't need to install a driver XP
will do it for you and any driver update you need get from
the Windows Update site NOT from Creative Labs. I used
both and have the PCI installed now. On board sound always
is hard to deal with when updating drivers.
