Hi, I am trying to get a SB Live value to work on my kids computer. It works
fine on the windows 98 system but when I try to install XP (Clean or
upgrade, it does not matter) I get this persistent problem.

When finished installing XP, I look in the sounds section of the control
panel. The icon for the SB Live is flashing between mute and not muted. The
little icon for the volume control is flashing on and off too. The Live is
recognized by XP for what it is and the driver that is installed is the
generic XP driver. i tried to install the XP driver patch but it always
comes up with the error message that there are no Sound Blaster products
installed and then it exits the install program. How do I get this thing to
work on XP. I had to upgrade my own computer to an Audigy 2 because this
same problem happened whan I tried to install it in my system. I can't
afford another Audigy right now. I really need to get this one to work as I
am having IE difficulties in 98 so its kinda forcing me to upgrade to XP. I
tried installing varios upgrade drivers from Creative without any luck.

Please, any ideas

Go to the Creative website and download the entire XP driver. I have been
using this sound card since XP came out and it will work. Jym

I agree with Jym. Uninstall the device and reinstall using the driver
from the Creative site, not the Windows XP driver. I have 2 computers
running XPhome, both with the SBLive card, and the card works fine with
both. Oh by the way, what's in the kid's computer now? If it has an
onboard sound chip, you usually need to disable the onboard sound in
order to install a sound card. Good luck!
