I have a sound blaster 1024 internal card, which is not
being recognised by Win XP Pro. I have installed the
driver as normal and when I go into Accessories-
Entertainment-> Volume Control I get the following
message.

There are no active mixer devices available. To install
mixer devices, go to control panel, click printers and
other hardware, then click add Hardware.

This program will now close.

The card was working fine prior to a re-build. I also
have an on board card, which is not being seen by XP
(when I enabled it).

If I go into control panel->sound and audio devices, all
options seem to be greyed out. Can you help.

Visit www.creative.com , search for the latest drivers designed for
Windows XP and your specific sound card, download and install them.

I have installed the latest drivers from the creative site, but still get the same problem. I get the same problem if I enable the onboard sound card. The device is seen correctly in device manager.

Having looked around my system I noticed that there are several other options greyed out, notably all options on the recycle bin are greyed out.

I have exactly the same problem. If nobody answered from 1/10/2004 then god save my XP installation. :-(

Same problem as what??????

General SB solutions:

Ensure the card is well seated in the PCI slot FURTHEST away from the AGP
slot

Ensure that Plug and Play Aware O/S in the BIOS is DISABLED

Ensure that you have the latest drivers from www.creative.com
