Under sound and audio devices in the control panel--The
DEFAULT BEEP is not listed--I reloaded the recovery disks
several times and it does not show up. I have a Toshiba
2410 that is 6 mo old-with XP Pro.

I used Search to locate default beep.wav on my system. It's shown as
located in program files\plus!\themes\2001... which is somewhat
peculiar because I don't have a folder called plus! in my program
files listings. (Tried it out, and the sound was more like an
unpleasant "sprong" than a beep.)

Do you mean that your sounds listing goes from critical stop to device
connect with nothing inbetween?

Kelly has a fix at line 6, left "restore system default sounds".
