by the complete Excel novice again. (thanks for the answers to my
leading 0 question - it worked!)

I want to sort the whole table, based on one column. The instructions
tell me to select a cell in the column I will want to sort by and sort
in ascending or desceding order.

This resulted in sorting only that column, but not keeping the
appopriate information for the entire row with that particular column.

I also tried selecting the whole column, telling Excel to 'expand my
selection, and sorting in ascending order. Same result.

I finally selected the whole table myself and sorted with the same
result - the column I am sorting by (in this case price) sorted in
ascending order, but did not sort the entire table - so now John
Smith's price is now associated with someone else's name (is this
clear)

Thanks so much. I'm so frustrated.

Say if you had the following:

1 A
2 B
3 C
4 D
5 E

If you selected the 1-5 and A-E then click on the Sort Ascending or
Descending buttons. I have just tested it and it worked for me.

Is that what you are meaning?

You need to select the entire table of data, and then sort on whichever column
you want. If you only select one column of data, then it will do exactly as you
have described and only sort that column, resukting in it not being aligned with
the correct data in the other columns.
