I have a list of first and last names that is not in alphabetical order. I
need to put them in order using the last name, which is the second word in
the line, as the sort item. How do I go about doing that. I have sorted the
list once, but the sort used the first name as the sorter.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

In the dialog, click on Options. For "Separate fields at," choose Other and
type a space. OK. You should then get the options of Word 1 and Word 2 in
the main dialog. Note that if you have any compound first names (such as
Mary Ann), you'll need to replace the spaces in them with nonbreaking spaces
(Ctrl+Shift+Spacebar) in order to have Word treat them as single words.
