Sorting by month not year

I need to sort a list of people by their birthday. It will only sort by year. I don't need to know how old they are, just what month their birthday will come up. How can I sort by month not year

I accomplish this by either removing the year (using a numeric picture
switch) or, if it is desired to keep the year, splitting it off into a
separate column.
