Is it possible to sort the names in my contacts so that last name appears
first, without going through and changing each one?

You can do it in Windows Live Mail but I don't think it can be done in
Windows Mail.

In Windows Live Mail click Contacts. In the contacts window, Click View and
then select 'show names as last first'

Thank you. I guess I'll have to switch, or change them all.

You're Welcome. Sorry I couldn't have given you a more positive response. It
might be worth trying Windows Live Mail as this is the 'future'. Microsoft's
new operating system Windows 7 will not include Windows Mail; the idea is to
move completely over to Windows Live Mail.

It can be done in Windows Mail.
Open each contact (double click) then where it says "full name", use the down arrow on the right to choose a format with last name first.
Unfortunately, you have to do this with each contact (not in bulk)
Then the contacts will be listed alphabetically by last name.
