Soooo slow!

Hi everyone. A most annoying problem I'm having is that after a few hours
connected via broadband (surfing or not) the whole machine just slows to a
crawl. There are no viruses etc, nor ridiculous cpu hogging processes. If I
have a page open for a couple of hours while I watch another one, it just
stops responding. Never had this with 98se (on the same system). Defo an XP
problem. "Uptime" is it called? Don't need more ram, or defrag all hard drive
etc...it's a setting problem I'm sure. bl**dy xp!!
Any clues?
Cheers

Geoff

Are you using Internet Explorer or another?

If you have a large hard disk I wonder whether the TIF default 3% of disk
setting
has any bearing? Start, Control Panel, Internet Options, General, Temporary
Internet Files, Settings.

Same location and reduce days History setting.

Is your system set to clear all Temporary Internet Files on Shutdown?

Hi, cheers for your advice. Yep IE is used, but I don't think it's that. I'm
a fairly advanced user I guess, and clean out everything daily. This has only
happened since xp has been installed. I use the net a lot, but I did with
98se too without this problem. Cleaning files and cookies etc has no effect -
the only way to get back to speed is to re-boot..twice, three times a day.
This can't be right!! 20 Gig hd, 256 ram - nothing special, but as I say, no
probs with 98.

256 mb RAM is low for Windows XP! Is your computer making too much use of
the page file?

A small utility to monitor pagefile usage:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_pagefilemon.htm

However, graphics and camera related programmes will bump
up page file usage.

Hope this helps.

Yes, it's got to be something like that. Cheers for the link, I'll try it
tomorrow and get some more ram soon!
