Seeing as how it is undetectable using normal means, how do you know you
have it?

Google is your friend. Hundreds/thousands of articles have been written
about it, and it's removal. Have you even tried the Sony web site for their
removal instructions. They did back down you know and offer assistance.

HAs anyone been able to find a way to get rid of this pest?

Sony I believe had a fix for this in Oct 2005.
Plus you got an exchange on the CDs with the rootkit and free offers on up
to two albums or something like that.
To get the Sony uninstaller, users were required to give out personal
details that would be used by Sony BMG and undisclosed third parties. This
caused another minor storm - the resolution of which I do not know.

Didn't Symantec get caught with their trousers down as well???

It's all flapping out in the breeze, but they don't seem to care.

There's an uninstaller available someplace on Sony's website. I would also
return the CD that introduced it to your system with extreme prejudice.

It you research this, You will find the the uninstaller can be worst then
the rootkit itself,..Becareful.
