i have a medion notebook with a bad problem.
AMD Athalon xp 2200 (1.8Ghtz), 512 Mb DDR Ram,Geforce 4 488Go Graphics,40 Gb HDD.
whenever i use either a Graphics intensive game or trying to save a movie maker project, the computer turns off.
there is no blue screen, no error message. The computer just turns off and i have to push the power button to urn it back on.
It even happened when i tried to reinstall windows.
I think it might be either the processor, the hard disk, or the bios settings.
ive been looking on the net for a diagnostic program but they all seem to need a floppy disk drive which i dont have.
Im completley lost on this one.
I checked the notebook makers site for updates and so on and sent them e-mails but they dont get back to me.
can someone give me some idea of what to do?
cos im feeling like i wasted £900 on a hunk of junk
all help appreciated.

If you need to know anything else post your question and i will get back to you.

For me this is useally caused by RAM errors. Run:
http://memtest86.com to test. Make a bootable CD if no floppy drive.
Next be sure to get latest chipset drivers from motherboard manufacture and
be sure to have latest BIOS for MB (bootable CD with Nero). Adjust BIOS
setup items like AGP fast writes, apature size and memory timings. Get
latest video card drivers. Start/Run msconfig and disable Startup items to
see if any make difference. Install and run Ad-Aware from:
http://lavasoftusa.com to scan computer for malware. Try a Knoppix bootable
CD to see if Linux is unstable too so as to isolate HW/SW problem.
Next is hardware, replace with known good untill fixed: RAM, motherboard,
and video card.

This can also be heat related. Make sure you are not operating the
laptop with the bottom fan ports blocked in any way - the lap is the
worst place to operate it from. You can also blow out the fan inlets
and the hot air exits with compressed "air" available at any computer
store. Make sure the computer is cool first - wait 30 minutes after
shutdown. Also, take care to hold the can exactly vertical so as to
prevent liquid from entering the computer. Much dust and debris can be
blown out of these which impedes cooling significantly.
