a large number of junk emails are being sent by someone worldwide from our
address. It is nothing to do with us at all and we get at least 20 returns
each day. Is there someway we can block this happening or find the culprit?
We delete the returns but do not know what sort of junk they are sending
under our name.

There's not a lot you can do unfortunately, just wait for them to move on to
some other poor soul.

Due the large volume of junk email I receive, the are occasions when I see
one with my own email address as the sender.

There are a few virus like emails which send junk/spam to everyone in an
address book and it will randomly choose one of these email addresses as the
sender. So if you are listed in someone's address book and they have a spam
spreading virus/bug, every receipient may recieve an email with you as the
sender.

But the quantity of returns seems to suggest you've had your email hi-jacked
as Roady and Ray have mentioned (in brief)

Draco.

If you have an own smtp server you should use an SPF record. This will
help to prevent sending emails in your name.

If you don`t have an own smtp server please aks your ISP for an option
"SPF". For example my provider has this option and I have simply to
activate it in the web configuration tool.

For more information about SPF see this site:
