See if this works ...

Start | Run | MSCONFIG | OK
Go to the Startup tab
Look for a line that contains the text winupd in it. Unselect it. Click OK.
Let it reboot.

On next reboot, tell the popup message to not bother you anymore about being
in selective startup mode & click OK (do not click the cancel button).

No that didn't work. Anything else?

Ok, go here and obtain this little startups-lister:
http://www.lurkhere.com/~nicefiles/startuplist1521.zip

Alternately, you can go to the site and look for the download link for
StartupList 1.52.1
http://www.lurkhere.com/~nicefiles/index.html

Put it in some folder, create a shortcut to it within that same folder, copy
the shortcut and paste it to your desktop. This method will cause the text
file to be created in the same folder as the utility is in.

Then see if you can find the file listed anywhere there, post here what you
find of that name.

After everything is ok, might want to rename the report file "original.txt"
or something for later historical comparisons.

Ok, if you found it in MSCONFIG then later on you'll want to turn it back on
again ... not yet, though.

Suggest you go back and review the replies from the first time you posted,
and the second, and the third, and the fourth, and the fifth - and the
sixth! This is Usenet, it isn't MS technical support, and posting every five
minutes isn't going to have your question answered any faster - quite the
opposite in fact - people will just kill-file you as you need to learn some
patience! People here do have lives away from these groups - we're not all
hanging around here in case Justin has a problem!

That's adware on your system. You need to follow all these instructions.

Clear out your TIF and other temp files. Go into Internet Options - General
tab.
Delete temporary internet files, and choose to delete all Offline content.
In Settings,
set the size of your TIF folder between 5 - 10 MB. Start - Find - Files or
folders
- in the named box, type: *.tmp and choose Edit - select all - File -
delete. Empty
the contents of the C:\Windows\temp folder and C:\temp folder, if you have
one. Empty
Recycle bin.

Download SpybotS&D 1.3:
Safer-Networking.org
or from Major Geeks:
SpyBot-Search & Destroy 1.3 Close all running programs, install then
reboot. Start it and go online and press 'search for updates' tab. (if you
have problems,
select the US or Australian mirror site to download updates from). Download
all updates
that aren't optional. Close all browser windows and run the scan. When it's
finished,
'Check All', and fix everything SpyBot-S&D labels in RED. Reboot. IF you
still have
problems after following all these instructions:
Download 'Hijack This' Unzip 'HT' into a "Folder", any folder but a
temp folder. It creates backups. Close all browser windows and run it
offline. Double
click the .Exe file to run it. Choose Scan. It'll display a list. Most of the
entries
listed are necessary or required entries. Don't fix anything, until you know
which
items to fix.

You can check here for a description of the entries in the log:
HijackThisTutorial

After the scan is finished, the Scan button will turn into Save Log. Press
that and
copy/paste the contents in a post. Before posting your message, choose this
Option:
Check this box to preserve your spacing, etc....

I suggest installing SpywareBlaster for prevention. Check for and download
updates
after installing it, and frequently thereafter. Enable protection for
Restricted
sites, as well as IE: JavaCoolSoftware.com

Disable system restore to clear out previous restore points. Then RE-enable
it, if
you choose, "after" your system's cleaned up.

Obviously you do not have a life, Miss Perspicacia Tick, considering you
read my posts and decided to take your time to type your little paragraph to
me. You don't know me, so don't talk to me like that. You were rude and
ignorant and I will ignore any message I see from you in response to this.
Hopefully, you read this and realize that Justin does have a problem and
will post as many times as he feels like it! And, I thank everyone who was
kind enough to answer me with respect and dignity, UNLIKE MISS TICK!

I tried what you said, and the file "winupd.dll" which is being displayed on
the error message is NOT found... so how would I find it?

Yes, it really is funny... what is her problem?
Isn't it funny she does this shìt? Makes a post to you saying, she will
ignore you LOL!

I replied in effort to try to be of help to the original topic poster.
That's the base purpose of this forum. Anyone who doesn't want to address
the topic issue doesn't have to try to take things off topic, that leads to
flames and other great annoyances. If you do not heed this request then you
might find this entire forum expressing itself.

So what! People who treated others with indignity and intolerance shouldn't be left aside. MPT needs tro be spanked on a daily basis. if you like it, then don't post to these replies.

All I have to say is that I was getting extremely frustrated with the issue
I was having with my system which runs an entire network/server. Therefore,
I wrote "Will someone please answer me??", as the subject to see if any of
you would reply... Luckily I got help from many of you, and I didn't need
that MPT bitching me out. I thank all of you who helped and im not taking
this situation off the subject, and I just stating my opinions and letting
everyone know they dont need to get shitty with anyone.

"if you like it, then don't post to these replies."

So I'm damned if I don't reply and damned if I do, eh. Don't get your undies
in a bind there around Ft. Mitchell, Tom. It's really not worth it. If you
want to spank MPT then start a new topic instead of shanghaiing one that's
being monitored because others tried to help someone, at least one can then
ignore that entire topic. And since Justin's last reply used past tense in
reference to the problem he opened this topic about, I don't need to monitor
this topic any more. Looks like Michael had the right fix for Justin. Too
bad others have to wade though a mess before seeing what the solution turned
out to be.

Well learn how to post to Usenet properly then! You don't like my reply?
Well maybe you should think why you received it. Posting every five minutes
isn't going to get you helped - more than likely it will get you kill-filed
and ignored because people will think you need to learn some patience (which
you do).

Excuse me, David Candy, I don't know where the hell you came from but I
certainly did provide the error message; obviously you didn't see that.
Also, the error was not self inflicted either so stop assuming it was. And
yes, WinGuy, my problem is fixed and I thank you for your interest in my
subject and trying to help me out. Back to Candy, you actually believe I
care that you are "better off without my type?" Well, let me get one thing
straight with you--I could care less what you or your sidekick----Tick, have
to say about me. I have a life aside from computing and reading newsgroups,
and if I have a problem... I am destined to get it fixed, therefore, I will
post as many damn times as I please! Finally, to clarify all of this
nonsense, I believe Miss Tick and David Candy need to relax and stop being
the Newsgroup Police! Jesus Christ!
It's a really stupid subject line. You didn't provide the error message. I
certainly wouldn't help you as it was also self inflicted. We are better off
without your type here.

Oh, the answer is so easy to find wanker.
