You will get a similar message if you turn off the computer with
another profile active.

Run virus and spyware checks, install firewall, disable guest and default
administrator accounts.

This is a Windows XP Pro machine? It sounds a lot like Remote Desktop.
Regardless, if this is XP Pro, you might want to check on this property and
disable it if you don't know what it is or are not using it.

Right click My Computer > Properties > Remote tab > make sure the setting
that reads similar to "Allow this computer to be remotely managed"

Also, pay attention to what VManes suggested. Those are some very
important, if not more important, steps that need to be taken care of. If
outsiders can even reach your Remote Desktop service, Remote Desktop is the
least of your problems.
