Hi,

A friend of mine had an infected XP SP2 installation.

After cleaning the viruses, adware etc, there is a persistent problem:

Some programs (especially setup programs) won't run.

I performed a repair using the original CD, but the problem remains.

Searching the 'net, I find that this has happened to other people: but I am
yet to find a solution.

When I look at the list of processes, usually the failed program is shown
with a 00 cpu usage;
otherwise the failed program shows up momentarily in the process list, and
then
disappears.

I have scanned the entire machine with different tools, and it is 100%
clean.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Colin.

In many cases, a virus infected computer cannot be repaired.
It would be best if you proceed with a "clean install" of
Windows XP.
