Some process blocks shutdown - how to find that culprit?

Since about a week, when I try to shutdown the system, simply nothing
happens (even when I try several times).

Only when I take out my utility TaskInfo and do a "Force Shutdown" the
system finally terminates. How can I identify, which process causes
this, so that I can either remove or re-install that obviously damaged
program?
