SoftwareDistribution Folder clear out

Is it safe to clear out folder
C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download? There is over
600mb worth of stuff in there from various windows
updates and now the monster SP2 download, and now they
are installed is it safe to just delete the entire
contents to free up a bit of disk space? XP Home Edition
by the way.
