Last year I purchased a new box with XP home on it. I did a succesful upgrade
to XP Pro. Used this machine as a server for 8 months managing users, group
access - the whole thing.
Reformatted this machine, restored home and upgraded to Pro again but I am
left with the Home - level security. Where did I go wrong?

Hi
First right click on my computer and click on properties.
The General tan should indicate what type of Windows XP you have.
If indeed it says Professional. please elaborate what Win XP Home level
security you are referring to/
Jack (MVP-Networking).

You ought to have been able to boot from the Pro disc, and when prompted for
a 'qualifying product' to upgrade, put your Home CD in, which is a big
timesaver.....

Not sure exactly what you mean. If you're talking about Simple File Sharing,
that's enabled by default in Pro unless you're on a domain. In Win Explorer,
go to tools | folder options | view | untick "use simple file sharing"
