When I attempt to load XP on my recently built computer an error appears that
says "Setup could not read the CD you inserted, or the CD is not a calid
windows CD" mind you this message comes up after approving the terms of
agreement.

Either your CD drive is marginal or the CD is damaged.
Try a different CD drive or ask a friend to make a copy
of your CD.

I've had this error on several occasions.

Drove me crazy for MONTHS (every time I tried to do an
install or burn a CD; particularly when attempting to back
up Software CDs..)

I finally got fed up and bought a brand new CD burner
($19.95 plus shipping).

Installed it.

Driver self-installed.

NO problems since.

Moral of the story, it's a good investment (and VERY cheap
these days) to buy a new CD burner (SOP).

Then that's just one less headache.

Good luck!
