Is there any software that can force resumed downloading on sites that do
not seem to allow this? Currently I am restricted to no more than about
20MB. I do have WGet and similar, but these are not even allowed for use on
some sites. It would probably (definitely) be considered cheating, but
needs must, and if you don't ask ....

Thanks

I thnk most download managers allow you to resume previously started
downloads. Free Download Manager is popular and you can easilly find
reviews of it on this forum.

I have that one too, thanks. Problem is, some sites do not allow the use
of download managers, or they do not support "resume", or - and this is
the one I'm trying to worm my way round - they do support resume but it
is restricted to certain users only. Rapidshare is one such. And please,
John C, I know I'm pushing my luck asking here. It's the sites that are
slooow that bug me. I know I can download 20MB in my allotted 2 hours, I
see the download creep up to 19+ MB, and whoops, start again. Sun
MicroSystems is or was one such site. For reasons I couldn't fathom they
explicitely stated that they would NOT split Java RunTimes/SDKs into
smaller files. You try and get 40+MB of SDK on a 56K modem in 2 hours -
Can't be done. And was there a resume option for GetRight? No. Things
may have changed - I gave up trying and found alternative sources for
Java. But those other sites are sometimes unknown territory in Eastern
Europe or China. Known sources of most of the malware currently
plagueing the web

Pay a subscription then. Mmmmm. Grrrr. For the sake of 2 or 3 downloads
a month. Aaaack. And so I ask. I'd pay for the software, but ..... It
just irks

Shut up Will. When you're in a hole ...

So I ask

Creeps off guiltily into the shrubbery to lick self-inflicted wounds.
But I am an honest crook. More honest than 99.99% of known politicians.
A safe bet that

Dare I read a reply? Yup. Masochist too

End of thread. I'll plonk myself. Just press that bu

No amount of software will "fix" that. Nor will resume d/l software be
effective if the site doesn't support it - resume d/l, that is.

Fortunately most broadbanders take pity on us poor dial-up'ers, so
ask a buddy to d/l for you and burn the result to a CD. To make things
easier for that buddy, provide a case of beer and exact links.

My main "other" source for Java and the like. Very effective and the
payments are painless. Anaesthetic occasionally
