the problem. By the the next night it does it again. i turned off the updates
until i can fid out what is going on.

Hi Melvin,

See:

How to configure and use Automatic Updates in Windows XP:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306525

I'd set it to "Notify me but don't automatically download or install them"

Hi Ramesh,
I must have not explained my problem very clear. When it install the update,
"I lose my video resolition , it reverts to 800-600 and the color quality is
set at 4. I can't change it. I downloaded the new driver for the video card,
it loaded ok but i was still unable to chamge my settings, the only way to
get it back is restore back to a few days and it ok. My question" what is in
the update that causes the problem "?
Or is there a work around this update?

Melvin,

No idea which update causes this problem. To prevent this from happening
again, simple set the Automatic Updates options to "Notify me but don't
automatically download or install them". Then install the updates one at a
time and reboot. This helps you isolate the problem.
