There is no freeware capture program which is able to capture a scrolling
window as the payware programs, like Snagit, do.

I use Irfanview for all of my screen capture needs. Is there anything
any of the suggestions in this thread do that Irfanview cannot?

SnagIt is outstanding at text capture, and the format in which it
captures the text is customizable. The latest version also has a built
in pixel magnfying glass that shows you precisely where your snags will
begin and end (the magnifying glass is small and appears near the
snagging cursor.

I'm a great fan of freeware, but I doubt that I'll find a free
replacement for SnagIt!! But if I do, I'll be delighted.

MWSnap is a very good program, but I must say, SnagIt ROCKS!!!

some of your actual postings are without any SIGs

some of your SIGs in your postings are:

"-- " (right)

"--" (further wrong - as you can see within the quoting above)

Could`nt you use no SIG or the right one "-- " (dashdashspace) in the
future? THX!

Sorry to be so late to all this. If you google Screenhunter, it's a
pretty good screen capture program. I use it all the time. You can set
it to start in the system tray. Pressing PrtScr activates it. The
captured area -- can be any part of the screen or all of it -- is saved
both to the clipboard and to a disk file.

I depends on your needs. If you need most of the functionality of
SnagIt, then there is no free alternative afaik. Alas, not all payware
has good freeware equivalents.

A nice feature of SnagIt is its ability to capture text where the
usual copy and paste don't work (you may have to do some cleaning up
afterwards). I have never come across freeware which does that.
