I have Roadrunner as my service provider. When I'm at work it would let me
get emails, but not send. So I changed the SMTP server to what the office is.
Now when I'm home it won't work at home. I tried creating 2 email accounts
and figured I could just change which one was the default depending on where
I was, but its not working. How can I get my outgoing email to work in both
places?

It usually works to use a SMTP server that accepts outgoing mail on some
port other than the usual port 25, and go through any steps needed to switch
to that other port. Ask both of your email providers whether they allow
this, and if so, where to find the details of switching to the other port.
Just
trying all the ports is a very slow way to find out, since there are about
65,000
ports available.

The basic rule is that in order for port 25 SMTP to work, the SMTP
server must belong to the same network as the one providing your
connectivity to the Internet. One possible workaround for you to
investigate is whether either provider offers SMTP on an alternate
(non-25) port, such as port 587. If the latter is available, it would
work anywhere.

It should have worked with two different accounts, one using the
home SMTP server, and the other using the work SMTP server.
Changing which account is default is not always reliable because
when replying to emails, Windows Mail chooses the account that
downloaded the message, not the default account. When I am
in that situation I don't bother changing the default account; just
make sure you pick the correct account from the pull-down selector
on the From line.
