Hi. I just re-installed Windows XP on my laptop but the display screen is too
small, it doesn't take up the whole screen. There's about 1-2 inches of black
screen all the way around. Does anybody know how to change this?? I've done
it before but can't remember how...I've gone to all the places on the
computer that I can think of but nothing is working. Pleas help!!

sound like it would be settings on the monitor rather than the pc, have you
tried looking at the settings on the monitor????

when you reinstall windows, the screen doesn't always show the right way. on
a laptop, you need to adjust it.

Scorchkat,

- right-click on your desktop, select Properties
- click the 'Settings' tab
- lower your screen resolution (800 x 600 pixels), click OK

After you reinstalled Windows, did you also install all the drivers for
all your hardware - including your video card? If not, you need to do
this.

Never get drivers from Windows Update. Get them from:

1. The device mftr.'s website; OR
2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if hardware is onboard; OR
3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM
computer (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).

Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the
drivers.

To find out what hardware is in your computer:

1. Read any documentation you got when you bought the computer.
2. If the computer is OEM, go to the OEM's website for your specific
model machine and look at the specs (you'll be there to get the drivers
anyway)
3. Download, install and run a free system inventory program like Belarc
Advisor. The older Aida32 is good for this, too.

http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html - Belarc Advisor
http://www.aumha.org/free.htm - Aida32 (hosted on Jim Eshelman's site)

After you have all the correct drivers installed, if you are still
having the problem:

1. Adjust your screen resolution to what you normally use from the
Display applet.

2. Adjust your monitor display by using the monitor's buttons.

Change the Resolution.
Open Display in Control Panel.
On the Settings tab, under Screen resolution, drag the slider to 800x600
pixels, and then click Apply.
Keep in mind that your monitor and video adapter determine how much you
can change your screen resolution.

Actually the OP needs to find the native resolution of the LCD. Which may or
may not be 800 x 600. My first guess would be 1024 x 768 <g>

Hi
Try changing the Screen Refresh Rate in Display - Advanced - Monitor.
For an LCD screen keep it at 60Hz ( to no more than 70 Hz)
Also ensure Monitor set as Plug & Play or as an LCD Laptop Screen &
that you are using the screens 'native' resolution.
