After I click on an icon, for instance, a search engine, the box comes up
very small and I have to maximize it. Is there any way to fix this so all
the sites will come up the right size? Thanks.

Try this:

Drag the window to the size you want it - don't use Maximise - then close
that window using File>Close/Exit.
