Have yellow question mark by SM Bus Controller in Device
Manager. Properties states that no driver installed.
Driver not found in WindowsXP Pro CD. What does the SM
Bus Controller do and where do I find the driver? Thanks
for all reponses.

Hi Steve,

From a previous post:

SM BUS Controller is a SYSTEM MANAGEMENT BUS Device. It is used for CPU
temperature or speed Controlling etc... If you would like to install it,
just install the Chip set Driver this will install the device.

Else you can install a driver from the Driver and Utility CD some where
finde the DELLSMB??? Folder or the FSCSMB Folder there you will find the
drivers. But, you must watch out, the driver file will be saved as a
dellSMB???.TXT and must be renamed in dellSMB???.INF.

That is why, you do not find the driver when browsing the cd. rename the
file and this should solve the problem.

I've found the SM Bus Controller in Device Manager a few times and had been
unable to install a driver for it.
Then i noticed that other times it wouldn't appear at all in Device Manager.

I traced it back to Motherboard Monitor running - if i shut down MBM (or
didn't have it running at start-up) then the SM Bus Controller would not
appear in Device Manager.
I now just ignore the entry when i find it in Device Manager.

Martin.
