SM Bus and Multimedia controller problem

I am having an impossible time viewing my USB2.0 external hard drive
because of this error in the device manager. I went and downloaded the
infinst_autol.exe program from Intel that says it would fix the SM Bus
error - low and behold, it does not. I cannot access the drive or even
recognize the drive in the adminstration panel under disk management.
This really sucks.

Is there a light at the end of the tunnel?

Running winXP

Also there is a new Multimedia driver as well that there seems to be a
problem with. Just downloaded the driver from intel again, still not
working.

One more thing, it continues to prompt me 'new hardware found'. But it
cannot find the drivers each time it runs through. I don't get this!!
There is no new hardware at all!

I've reinstalled an old version of the motherboard chip set - and that
took care of the SM bus problem, but I still can't read the drive and
still have the MULTIMEDIA VIDEO problem - tried installing new NVIDIA
drivers, didn't work. This was after I uninstalled the old ones.
