slowness of Windows Mail

Why is it that when i got to reply to an email message, or forward it, or
even when I hit 'create mail' - it seems to take forever to get going -
Outlook Express was far superior in this regard.

There are a number of possible causes. See here:

Also, you might have too little RAM memory. Many cheap computers
come with only 512MB, although Vista runs slowly with only that
much. As far as I can tell, Windows Mail doesn't need more than
1 GB to run at essentially full speed, though.
