Has anyone noticed a slowdown in performance after
installing SP2 Windows XP?
.
Hell yes....it is terrible....I have pipeline for speed
only, and now the 40.00 a month I am paying is a waste..

Hi,

I notice a bit more overhead in ram and a slight increase
in boot time.. but all-in-all the machine seems to run
better.

well as the internet?

No significant change in performance. Did you carry out housekeeping after
installing SP2?

What you do and how often you do it will depend on how you use your
computer. A suggested routine may include:

1. In Outlook Express empty your Deleted Items folder.
2. In Outlook Express run File, Folder, Compact All whilst OFFLINE.
3. Run Disk Cleanup. Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk
Cleanup with
Temporary Internet Files, Offline Web Pages (optional), System Restore (
more Options tab )
and Recycle Bin selected for deletion. If you have more than one drive /
partition you may
need to do this operation for each drive / partition.
4. Remove Cookies. Start, Control Panel, Internet Options, General, Delete
Cookies.
5. Run Disk Defragmenter.

Check whether you could reduce the number of days the History of sites
visited is retained. Start,
Control Panel, Internet Options, General, History.

Check how much free space you have on the hard drive / partition where your
pagefile is located.
You need a minimum of 15% but 20% or more is better.

Also note another factor may be the time (about 3 days) it takes to recreate
the prefetch folder.

Hope this helps.

I notice it takes approx, 3 times longer to get in windows, and to shut down.

Windows itself runs fine once it's going...however, I have some weird random
errors now. Like when I run Check Disk, and it goes into windows, my moniter
won't come on (Laptop). I can press the power button (which I have set to
"Ask me what to do") and press right arrow twice (to restart) and press
enter, and the computer will restart. But IT'S NOT RIGHT! I don't care if
it's easy to get around. My computer was perfect :-(. Well, almost... but
still.... this stuff makes me mad.

If you are getting a performance hit also try:

start>run>type msconfig>click on startup tab>click the deselect
all>click apply>click ok>restart pc.

If the pc runs better, less issues, then there was an incompatable
program running on the pc. If that doesn’t work, might have to get
hardware updates.

To try to find out what program is a little harder, and more involved.
Basically you would have to follow the steps above, but instead of
deselecting, put a check mark in the boxes, and restarting the pc
after you select each item. That should give you an idea of what
program is the culprit. Then try to get an update from the software
manufacturer to try to correct the problem.

If that doesn’t work, might have to get hardware updates.
