It sounds like you have many applications listed under the following
registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
To get into the registry, do this:
1) Click START
2) Click RUN & type 'regedit' & press ENTER
3) The registry editor opens
Click on the '+' next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Click on the '+' next to SOFTWARE
Click on the '+' next to Microsoft
Click on the '+' next to Windows
Click on the '+' next to CurrentVersion
Click on the 'Run' folder icon
In the right you will see the items running on startup. Before you do
anything, back up the key. To do this, follow these simple directions
Making sure you have the 'run' folder highlighted.
Click the 'Registry' menu & choose 'Export Registry File...', choose a
filename/save location & save the key
Now, move back to the 'run' key. In the right pane you will see probably a
long list of items.
Look for things like Antivirus/firewall software & leave those keys alone,
but keys like:
RealPlayer
Quicktime
and other unneeded software like Messengers, but remember that messengers
like MSN need the program opened first & remove from Windows Startup,
otherwise, they will return on next boot
If you see any rogue entries like 'dkufddfdkgd' (example only) then delete
it, as it probably spyware or a worm...
-------------------------------
I see you use Adware Away. This has been proved to produce false negatives.
My advice would be to uninstall this dreadfull program & just keep SpyBot S
& D, which is an amazing program. Also, with SpyBot you are able to control
the STARTUP items by:
Clicking MODE & choosing Advanced
Click TOOLS in the explorer style list on the left
Choose 'System Startup' from the list.
--------------------------------------------------
I hope the above has given you an insight. If you need any additional help
then you can always right-click your backep-up registry 'run' key, choose
'edit', which will open the file in notepad & then you can copy/paste the
file into this thread & I will let you know the items that are safe to
delete.
