Slow starting of Programs

In XP Home, when I double click on a program to start it, it takes about 30-40 seconds before the program starts. This is true even in sending something to the printer. Does anyone have any ideas what has slowed me down??? I have a 1G PIII, 512Mg RAM and 80G HD
 
There are many possible causes for system slowdown, but if this only started
happening recently, you should run a virus scan to make sure you aren't
infected with a virus.

You may also want to try using system restore in case a recently installed
application or driver is to blame for your slowness:
