when I turn on computer, I get a `windows is starting up.....` message on the
standard xp blue background. This lasts for approx 3 mins before I get to the
account user log on screen. Any ideas why?

For all that have the same maffi's problem:
I solved the problem this way:
1. I killed all spywares (I had a lot)
2. I run antivirus previusly updated
3. I deleted ALL files of Temp folders (of Documents and Settings and
Windows folders). You have to activate "Show hidden files and folders" in
MyComputer-Tools-Folder Options.
4. I deleted ALL files of Temporary Internet Folders(T.I.F)of all users.
Some T.I. files are not seen. In this case use Properties(with mouse right
click) of T.I.F. for to see if there's hidden files (I had 500 MB of
temporary internet files HIDDEN!). Delete hidden T.I.F. in Safe Mode and
check with Properties if all was deleted. If some hidden file was not erased
do this:
a. In Safe Mode Open Control Panel - Internet Options
b. In Temporary Internet files section, click in Settings
c. Click in Move Folder and to choose any folder for the new temporary
Internet Files (It's provisional). Click OK. Your computer will restart.
d. Restart your computer in Safe Mode again
e. Erase the T.I.F. that has the hidden files (all the folder)
f. Restart you computer in normal mode
g. Make the same steps b. and c., but choosing the original T.I.F. (Local
Settings folder of respective user).
h. Restart in normal mode and don't forget to delete the provisional T.I.F.
that you used.
Good look.
