Hello

Since yesterday Start Up on my PC has been very slow. My
PC goes through the normal start up procedures fine. I
then select my log on.... where my Desktop is then
displayed. Normally I hear a short tune as my start up /
desktop and settings are ran. This now doesnt happen.
There is a delay of about 5 mins before I hear the tune
and then my programmes that run on start up kick in.

I have checked my PC for viruses - it found none.
(includes the KLEZ virus).

Any ideas on what is causing this.
Please help
Regards

Your problem sounds crazy but then what else is new with computers. I recently had some other kind of problems and dug into the System Restore ability of XP where you go back to an earlier date and tell the system to restore the settings of that date. It fixed my system and maybe will do the same for you. Research it and try it.

After a period of time using your PC you'll add new applications and they are also added to your StartUp file, thus it takes longer and longer for your PC to boot. Most of these programs do not need to activate at startup, but only at time of use.
To stop these from starting, do this: Start/Run/type MSCONFIG and click OK, now go to the StartUp tab. Notice all the programs that are checked, most of them can be uncheckedk/disabled. Uncheck all except your anti-virus program, if Norton, it will start with NAV. Now click Apply and OK. Reboot your PC. It will reboot a lot faster, and you now have a "lean, mean machine". Also every time when signing off the Internet, delete your cookies and on and offline Internet files by rightclicking your IE (Internet Explorer) icon/Properties/Delete buttons.
One more note: Download Spybot - Search and Destroy from below website and run it!

Try looking for ad/spyware, with Adaware or a Spybot remover.

I am not saying this to be a smartass, I really mean it.

I had xp, did not like it, and so I FDISKED c:
and installed 98se. I am not saying this is the solution for everyone, you
have to know how to do it, but after
"downgrading to 98se all my computing problems went away.

And yes, I knew how to turn of services, update drivers, and all the other
things that ms says will solve the problems. I really think they rushed xp
out to get it available before any court rulings went against them and it
somehow is just not quite right.

I have no proof of this, it is just idle speculation.
I do know that for ne, on my machine 98se works a LOT better.
