Slow Shutdown sequence

I just got my new laptop and the shutdown takes FOREVER.
My desktop, quite slower than my laptop, takes all of 5-7
seconds to shut down. My laptop on the other hand can
take upwards of 30-60 seconds to shutdown. That seems
like a really long time for a brand new 2.5Ghz laptop.
Any help on improving the time would be hot. Thanks

except it takes a minute and a half to shutdown. Thanks!
