Slow shut down

I have several Windows 200 laptops that are taking over
three minutes to shut down. I have all the latest
downloads on these laptops.

Do you have SP4 installed? SP4 was supposed to fix a shut down problem in
SP3. Also, check to see what services are running. One of them is having
trouble shutting down, thus causing the extended shut down time.

Before all the regulars jump on you, I'll beat 'em to the
punhc:

You need to state a bit more information about your PC.

My first question though is whether these machines are on
a domain or just completely stand-alone machines.

In either case, perhaps there are big profiles that need
to be saved at this point? You never mentioned what is
going on when it's slow, so is it happening when 'saving
settings'?

On some systems, SP4 *causes* a shutdown problem. Check the Event Log for
relevant entries.

Check your event logs (application) for the following:-

"Source: Userenv
Category: None
EventID: 1000

Windows cannot unload your registry class file. If you have a roaming
profile, your settings are not replicated. Contact your administrator.

DETAIL Access is denied. , Build number ((2195))."

If that's there, it's a problem with hive handles not being released. The
system cycles round for about a minute trying to release the handles before
finally failing.

Check out http://www.citrix4ge.de/ctxsffaq/index.htm#prof

for a fix.
