Slow Save Times

I have recently moved my site from Frontpage 2002 to Frontpage 2003.

Whilst I was making the transition, I made the new site in a different folder to the original folder that I had used.

When I was ready to transfer the new site to our servers, I went into windows explorer and the old site was renamed to blah blah old and the new site was renamed to the original website name that I used.

Since doing this my every time I try to save pages in my site it takes approximately 2 minutes to save each page.

The website has a dynamic template and has 136 pages in total, but previous to me changing the name of the folder in windows explorer it was only taking seconds to save. It also now takes 40 minutes to update the 136 pages where as previously it has take 5 minutes.

I've tried going back into windows explorer and have renamed the folder back to its original name, but this has not helped.

I have another website on my computer and that still only takes minutes to save etc.

My computer is not running on any kind of server and is a standalone pc,

I am also on broadband.

Please help!!??

Take care

Laura

You should never manage your web content outside of FP. Try the following, publish the current web
to another folder, then work in that folder and see if your time has improved.

If you need to rename the folder holding a web, publish it to another folder or change name (if
allowed) under Tools | Web / Site Settings.

Thanks Thomas,

Yes I did that, for arguments sake lets say its website 1 folder and website 2 folder.

The 2002 website was in website 1 folder, I created the new website in website 2 folder.

When I was ready to do the change over, I went into windows explorer and renamed website 1 to website old and renamed website 2 to website 1.

Since then it has caused me very slow save times and is very slow when I change the dynamic web page.

So I changed the name back from website 1 to website 2

This didn't solve the problem.

So I went into frontpage and created a new site using the website 1 name.

I then went into windows explorer and copied all the files from website 2 to website 1, but this didn't solve the problem.

Is this what you mean by publish the files to another folder?

Take care

Laura

Hi Thomas

Further to my last post, I have now found the publish your site option (sorry I usually use cuteftp so wasn't use to this bit!)

I published the site to a new folder on my harddisk, but unfortunately when
I opened the new site and again made a change and saved it still took
nearly 2 minutes to save the page

Any help on this issue would be most appreciated.

Take care

Laura

you could have just opened the original web in Frontpage 2003 straight away -
would there be any harm in that - rather than mucking around with renaming
folders and so on.

Laura,

The key to this is to NO use Windows Explorer or My Computer to manage your web content, only use
FP.

What you should have done was open website1 and then publish to website 2. But you need to start
back with your original website 1 content, since you have corrupted the any content in website 2 by
using Windows Explorer.

Laura,
I believe you would have bee much better off if you had "Published" from the old web folder to the
new web folder.
You can publish from one location to another on the same computer.

Hi
Can I add my hassles to this thread too?

I'm running several webs on Windows2003 with FPExt2002. Some of our editors
are using FP2000, FPXP, and some using FP2003.

We are having significant problems with opening webs and publishing on a
LAN. There are times a web could take several minutes to open, likewise
pages. Also to save and eventually to publish the web. All saving/publishing
is done thru FP using FPSE.

Very frustrating to say the least and I have had no problems with other webs
I have on NT4 using FPSE2002.

Would anyone in this thread have any clue what's going on here? Perhaps this
is somewhat the same as Laura's hassle.
BTW... I've flushedDNS and removed *.web from clients and recycled the webs
and this hasn't made any difference.

Any help would be appreciated...
Troy

If you still have your NT4 server with FP2002 extensions available, open the FP Admin page, navigate
to Virtual Servers, then click on the Administration for each web, then select Change Configuration
Settings.

Do the same under Windows 2003 server as above.

Now compare the configuration setting, if they are missing under Windows 2003, add the values as
shown on the NT4 server.

After you have made the changes for each web, switch the section of the FP Admin and run a Server
Health Check, and make sure to check all 4 boxes on the right of this screen.
