Slow response if not using HTTP:// in URL

I've just rebuilt my PC and RE-installed Windows XP SP1a and Internet
Explorer 6 SP1. Previously, whenever I typed a URL into the address bar
wihtout the HTTP:// prefix, the site would appear almost immediately but now
IE6 takes several minutes to work out that it needs to add the HTTP://
before starting to navigate to the site.

Does anybody know why this behaviour has just started? I can't think of
anything different about my configuration except that I started off with a
clean copy of WinXP SP1a.

This was previously raised on the following thread and one solution was to
use CTRL-Enter after typing in the first part of the domain name but if
anyone has any more detail then I'd be grateful for some help.

Many thanks in advance,

Hi Mike, thanks for your response.

I have checked these registry keys and they all have the values you list.
Any other ideas? If it helps, I have noticed that "File, Save As" (when
pulling down the "Save In" droplist) and right click "Send To" functions are
also really slow (same problem?).

Also, I have recently noticed that the problem goes away when I set my IP
configuration to APIPA (169.254 addresses), although I have to use 192.168
addresses for Internet Connection Sharing. I may be way off the mark here
but thought I'd mention it just in case.

Many thanks in advance,
John.

Ignore my last post - I'm getting confused with another problem (slow
Windows Explorer). Anyway, confirmed registry keys IE still slow.
Thanks,
John.
