slow performance

a program called pc mightymax has somehow put a demo on my pc and is
constanly scanning files. i have tried to uninstall this program, by using
the add and remove fuction but according to this it is not even installed it
only allows me to change the program then asks me to install it. can any1
help in helping me get this program off my pc.
 
If you Google "PC Mightymax" you will be presented with several forum
threads dealing with the removal of this piece of peskyware.

Boot your computer into Safe Mode.

To do this turn on the computer and start tapping the F8 key rapidly
just as soon as the first information of any kind shows on the screen.
Keep tapping rapidly until the Windows XP Startup Menu appears and
choose Safe Mode from the menu.

When the computer is running in Safe Mode use Start - Run - MSCONFIG.
Go to the Startup tab and find the entry for PCMM.EXE and click on the
checkbox for that line to clear it. Click on Apply and OK as needed
to exit but do not restart the computer yet.

Then open Windows Explorer and navigate to the Program Files folder.
Within the Program Files folder locate the folder named PC Mighty Max,
right-click on it and choose Delete.

Shut down and restart the computer. PC MightyMax should be gone.
