slow performance

When I open the recycle bin it takes 60 seconds to open and its worse when I
close it. When I open the add/remove programs in the control panel nothing
shows so I go watch TV for a while and come back and the list of programs to
remove show up around 5 to 10 minutes later. I am using Windows XP Home
SP2. Whats causing this can someone help? I did a restore to a previous
date but that didnt help.

have you tried a full virus and malware scan?
If you're sure the machine is scumware free,
try one of the pc diagnostic sites like
pcpitstop.com

Sounds to me like a hard disk failure is about to happen, how old is your
machine? do you wipe it regualr / defrag allot? to be honest if its taking
that long to access the data .. id definetly think about gettting a new Hard
disk at the cost they are these days its well worth it..

build XP on that and copy your stuff over so its safe.. see if you notice
speed difference!
 
My computer was doing the very same thing. Slow, slow, slow---everything,
nothing showed in Add/Remove. I reinstalled. Windows XP Pro. Much better
now. I had to go through the phone-in reactivation thingie, too. Since, now
it is a computer talking to you instead of an MS employee, it only takes a
few quick minutes.

Oh, yeah...when I tried to use my Windows XP Pro cd it wouldn't allow me
reinstall! What nerve! I had to uninstall SP2 and all the Windows dl's
first...then my CD worked.
