Slow performance while browsing network shares via "My Network Pla

When browsing a network share from "My Network Places" the performance gets
worse and worse the deeper down the folder hierarchy I go. However, if I
browse thes same share using the "Run" (i.e. \\servername\sharename) command
then performance is acceptable. Why is this.

I also notice that there are two distint icons when I tab between the
windows; one has a magnifying glass and the other does not - maybe this is
the difference?

Richard.

Does the share contain multimedia files (video, music ... ) ?
XP interrogates the file to display resolution/play time/etc .. in Explorer
and that process can take ages.

Right click the bar in explorer (the bit that says Name, Size, Type) and
deselct the offending columns - you may need to scroll down the list.

Regards,

Tim

The folders just contain Word and PDF files for the most part. Also, why
should browsing the same folders result in different performance
"experiences"? Does anyone know the significance of the magnifying glass over
the folder icon when browsing via My Network Places?

Richard.
