Hi,

I am running Win XP Pro SP1, and Office 2K. The pc has a
2 Ghz P4, w/512 MB DDR Ram.

I have a large spreadsheet (approx 35 MB) that takes
forever to open up or to make changes to. I just
increased the Ram from 512 MB to 1 GB. The worksheet
works exactly the same, no improvement.

Do I need to tell XP or Excel I have more memory available?

Thanks,
Jeff

Why is the spreadsheet so large? Simplify links etc! Why not ask for advice in an Excel newsgroup?

Spreadsheet design is an art and not something I have studied in any depth. With Excel there are so many ways of achieving the same result and picking the best for the task in hand is not always easy to see. You could create a copy of your spreadsheet and test alternatives to see what impact it has on file size. Handling over large files will test the capacity of any system.

Have you looked at breaking your spreadsheet into smaller ones and using a macro to summarise the results in a summary spreadsheet?
