I have an IBM Thinkpad and am appualed by the lack of performance.

What steps should I take to isolate hardware vs software vs OS

Does anybody have a IBM Thinkpad A31 that is tweaked out? What should I
"kill" in MSConfig

I do only have 256k mem, but I don't want to buy more until I am sure that
this is a good setup.

What tweaks?
I basically use Office apps. is the fuctional use for this system.

I would LIKE to run GOBACK, but this REALLY slows down THIS system.

Help please! IBM has not been much help on this issue...

Thanks

Thats a design feature _specifically_ built into goback. Live with it if
you chose to use it.

I have never seen GoBack this SLOW on a NEW install! Usually after several
months, and then just dump the history and then it is OK again. Yes it is
slowER, but NOT this slow!!!

BYW, Thanks for www.bootdisk.com! Saved my butt many times! I found out
about your site from MS believe it or not!!!

Thanks

That's what I am, a butt saver. I should get my own screen saver.

What are the specs on your system, processor and speed, memory ( I assure
you, you have more than 256k, what graphics card, does it share memory with
main system memory (if not sure, check your system documentation) does your
ThinkPad have a powersaver mode, it's possible the powersaver or speedstep
if your processor supports is putting the system into that mode, assuming
the performance problems you are having are off the battery and not when
connected to a wall outlet. What size hard drive and how much free space on
the partition on which you installed XP?

Make sure your antivirus software is up to date and run a virus scan.

Also, download, install and run Ad Aware:

Did XP come preinstalled or did you add it to your system. If you added it,
did you do a clean install or did you upgrade over your previous operating
system. What was the previous operating system.
