I have a Dell Dimension 2350 with a new HD installed
approximately a month ago. Yesterday afternoon for
apparently no reason the computer slowed to almost non-
operation. Very sloooowww reboot. Ran SpyWare, Norton's
Antivirus, defrag. Not helping too much. Something is
running the CPU at 100% all the time???? HELP!!!

Download Ad-Aware 6.0 and scan your PC for the presence of spyware:

Carey is probably right: You're probably infected with spyware, a virus or
both.

Open Task Manager and report back on which process(es) are taking up your
CPU time.

We have run Spyware Doctor, Norton's Symantec, and defrag
of the hard drive. The process using the CPU is Image
Name: System; User: System. Running at between 95 and
99. ?????

I've got the same problem. They only thing I see in the Task Manger is a battle between Task Manager and Explorer.exe to see which one can use the most % of the CPU. Haven't been able to narrow the other process down because of how fast they are fluctuating. The only thing that cured it was a total wipe of the hard drive partition and reinstall of xp. Then it locked up again downloading XP SP-1. The only thing the several instances of the lockup had in common was an update from zonealarm or installing .net framework (which I'm not sure i need). Now I've got to call windows because i've installed windows too many times on the same computer
