Slow opening with "track changes" on

When we are using the "track changes" option in word XP &
2003, and when the track comments have reached over an
amount, the file takes a very long time to open? We have
tried using many different PCs (most are 1 - 2.4Gb CPU and
over 256MB RAM) and using word 2000/2002/2003 with no
difference.

Is this just the way files open with "track changes" on?

If you have a lot of them, I'd guess so. That's a lot of
layouting work Word is having to do, deciding what to display
and what to put into balloons, etc.

You could try saving with the display of balloons set to
"never" and see what kind of difference that makes. Also try
saving while in the Normal view.
