Hello all computer geniuses,

I am having problems when I try to play a video file I
have. I posted many times before on this forum. The
problem is that it lags whilst trying to play. I scanned
for viruses, did disk cleanup, and disk defragmenter.
Now, this is where it got interesting. It said in disk
defragmenter that "the movie in discussion.AVI" could not
be defragmented. I think this is the cause of the
problem, but I do not know what to do next.

My specs are as follow:

512mb ram
60g harddrive 20gb free
32 mb G force grapgics card.
2.4 GHZ prcessor.

For other video files, even at better quality, they play
fine. It is just this file that lags.

Please help fix this

When a defragmenter cannot defragment a file, it usually indicates a
permissions problem or a locked file. Make sure you've stopped playing the
movie, and have closed the media player whilst defragmenting. It does sound
trivial, but I must make sure.

Also, another [background] program may be using it. Close other background
processes whilst defragmenting.
Which codec is this movie encoded in? (Windows Media Player -> File ->
Properties, and the video codec).

There I go again! Answering an already answered question! And cluttering
this newsgroup with apology posts!
