I have checked with my server, the connections are fine, but the pages in my
browser are taking forever to load.
Im running XP on ADSL 512 speed. I have done disc clean up - defrag, run
spy ware, virus protector etc. My firewall is XP.

Any suggestions why my pages are taking so long to load.
Judy

Hi Moe Hair - another thing that happened last night, I forwarded an email
about 3666kb long to about 4 or 5 friends, and have just been advised one
received it 4 times, the other 77 times (took over 2 hrs to download) - Now
THAT is a worry - Im afraid I am about to lose a few friends !!!!!

join the club. I've tried everything, too. I get a message that reads
something like
"Failed to connect to server" or "page cannot be displayed", yet when I
hit f5 or ctrl-f5, the page loads in a second.

Anyone?

Hi Judy :-)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Safely Delete the Temporary Internet Files

also…

Download and run the following:

BHODemon - Free

Information here -

or…….

Try reregistering the following files:

Start>Run>enter the following lines in the window one at a time, hitting
Enter after each one. You should see a message after entering each one that
it was registered.

regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll

Do you mean it took over 2 hours to upload it or your friend took two hours
to download it? Either way, someone has a problem. Download your latest
virus definition file and try to do a boot scan on the drive that has your
system files and program files (at the least). I'm setting that up right
now.

I havent tried that "Moe Hair" - but will do so - will get back to you later
in the day

No, it took ages to leave here, kept stopping all the time, but it took my
friend 2 hrs to download - he only has dial up

Jan- have to rush out now will get on to this later. Many thanks

Judy

just curious - what security programs do you have loading in startup.

I have Avast AV, Zone Alarm, Spybot and Microsoft Anti-Spyware. One or
more of these may be causing a problem with the browser. I also have a
feeling the host file (or files) may be upsetting the apple cart, too.

I dont let much start up in - I only have
logitech desktop messenger (whatever that is) in common startup
ireadme in common startup
and adobte speed launch in common startup
and then 3 HKLM\Software\M-soft windows\current version\run
If any of these can be unchecked, will someone please tell me.

Hi Judy :-)

You can safely uncheck the Logitech Desktop Messenger. This is what it is.
It appears that you have, or had, a Logitech mouse or other device, and this
is part of the software.
http://www.windowsstartup.com/wso/detail.php?id=1482
I have a Logetech Click mouse, and I unchecked that in my startup list.
There may be an Icon on your desktop for this if you need it.

If you have SpyBot, you can also use the Startup Settings in the Tools
section to add or delete any startup files. You have to have it in Advanced
Mode to see the various groups.

Hope this helps :-)

Thanks for that Jan - I wondered if having Logitech on there was really
necessary.
I must say that I downloaded that program BHODemon - did another cleandisk,
and then rebooted, did a looooonggg scan, and now it appears things have
livened up a bit in the browser. So I hope my problem has been fixed now.
Many thanks for everyone's advice

You're very welcome! Glad to hear you were able to get your system back up
and running well again.
Good job!

Thank you for posting back and letting us know what worked for you, and for
the benefit of other readers who might have a similar problem. :-)
